GridApp Systems Offers Complete Oracle RAC Database Solution for the Mid-Market

GridApp Systems, a provider of database automation solutions, has announced a turnkey RAC solution, bundling its D2500 database appliance - powered by GridApp Clarity - with free Oracle RAC licenses. The bundled offering, called "Ready. Set. RAC!" also features optional storage and migration services, and is intended to provide an easy and affordable path to Oracle RAC adoption while also reducing the ongoing costs of administration.
According to the company, GridApp Systems' reference architecture for Oracle RAC allows companies to avoid the difficulties and additional costs of installing and managing complex RAC technology. Its D2500 appliance combines the IBM BladeCenter and GridApp database automation software, Clarity, to simplify, automate and virtualize the database environment. The D2500 serves as a drop-in alternative that can be put into production within a day and can scale databases online in minutes, according to GridApp.
"We have seen Oracle RAC's proliferation increasing," Rob Gardos, president and CEO of GridApp, told 5 Minute Briefing. However, he added, "One of the things we noticed in the marketplace is the adoption of Oracle RAC for the middle market and for the SMB market is not happening as rapidly and what is causing that is the complexity of the product." According to Gardos, "A lot of the middle market and the SMBs don't have the resources, the database expertise, to implement such a sophisticated technology, so they have been reluctant to do so." Moreover, he said, the cost of Oracle RAC licenses can be "a significant barrier to entry for a lot of these middle market and SMBs."
GridApp anticipates "significant uptake" of the new turnkey RAC solution, said Gardos. "Oracle has certainly invested a lot of marketing and a lot of effort in promoting RAC. We think Oracle RAC is a powerful technology and we think the middle market is really ready for it.
