GridApp Systems Introduces Clarity 4.5 with Custom Task Automation

Yesterday, GridApp Systems, a provider of out-of-the-box database automation software and solutions, introduced GridApp Clarity 4.5, the next-generation version of its flagship database automation software. At the heart of Clarity 4.5 is Clarity Actions, an automation framework which extends automation across the database environment by enabling IT organizations to customize and automate any type of database activity. "We had been focused on provisioning and patching," Matthew Zito, chief scientist of GridApp, told 5 Minute Briefing in an exclusive interview prior to the announcement. "But we have a number of customers who want to automate other stuff." Clarity Actions provides a secure framework to automate every operational and administrative task around a database, he said.

Other enhancements in Clarity 4.5 include a broadened support matrix that includes Sybase, DB2 UDB, and MySQL. GridApp is also developing what it calls the Clarity Actions Library - a starting point of pre-built scripts - so customers can utilize industry best practices to build or customize content.

Popular pre-built Clarity Actions include SQL 2000 to 2005 upgrades, Oracle 9i, 10g, and 11g upgrades, user and security management with best practices, data migration and code promotion to production, and user updates.

Clarity Actions can be safely executed by users without vast database skill sets given the new compliance-friendly process repetition, reporting, and tracking functionalities. Clarity Actions is fully integrated with Clarity's security, logging, and job tracking model, allowing database teams to track user and task execution and streamline oversight. Clarity Actions are aimed at automating repetitive, time-consuming, error-prone tasks, Zito said.

Finally, Clarity 4.5 features improved security functionality including greater password protection and more controlled patching privileges and a more flexible and manageable environment based on an enhanced GUI layout and more organized logs for better overall ease of use.
